Le Dorat is a thriving small town, in the north Haute Vienne region, and is a very popular place for locals and tourists alike. The town is served well for all amenities and schools, and there's also a train station with regular trips to Limoges and Poitiers. In the summer there are evening markets every fortnight, when you can buy your own cheese, bread, wine, and meat - and have it cooked to perfection on the BBQ, followed by dancing.

There's an abundance of things to do in this beautiful, tranquil area. There are many outdoor pursuits such as kayaking, rock climbing, horse riding, and water sports. There are many places to explore including following the Valley of the Frescoes along the river Gartempe. At Montmorillon, City of Writing, there are often book-related courses and other skills of interest such as calligraphy. It's only a 40 minute drive to Limoges with its porcelain museum. It's an hour to historic Poitiers where you can also spend a couple of days at Futuroscope - the giant film theme park.
